As well as running Three Bells Furniture for nearly thirty years, Jonathan has found time to write. Several short stories have been produced and more recently an adventure story. “Never a Dull Day in Pompeii” is based on the ancient Roman city of Pompeii and the nearby town of Herculaneum.
It describes their destruction on 24th August 79 AD by the eruption of Vesuvius, their subsequent re-discovery many years later and a modern day quest to discover a fortune in Roman coins and treasure in an undiscovered villa on the slopes of the volcano.
The main characters are ordinary people who get caught up in events which bring out the best in them. The story describes the development of the relationship between complete strangers in England and Italy as they pursue their quest. This book is well researched and the stitching of fiction and historical fact makes it an extremely believable tale.
Jonathan is the Great Grandson of the author Sir Henry Rider Haggard (King Solomon’s Mines, She, Alan Quatermain and many other romances and works of fact.) his book is available online on Amazon but can be purchased from the showroom for £9.80 or sent direct.
Just make your cheque for £12.00 (which includes p&p) out to Jonathan Cheyne at the Three Bells address shown to the left, and you will receive a copy by return. “Never a Dull Day in Pompeii” makes for a great read but is also good as a Christmas or birthday present.
